Our September fundraising concert, generously hosted by Andrew and Hillary Cumming in their home, raised more than $20,000 to support our work. Thank you to all who attended. Your contribution allows us to continue to bring the healing power of music to our long-term care and incarcerated audiences.
CBC Radio’s The Sunday Edition with Michael Enright has recorded our October 11 concert at Millhaven Maximum Security institution and will broadcast it on Sunday, November 10 at 11am on CBC Radio One to its 1.3M listeners. This is our first major media presence and we are excited and humbled to have our story told in this way.
TSO is gifting Looking at the Stars with two free concerts presenting Vivaldi’s “Four Seasons,” performed by its chamber orchestra of 14 performers. Recipients will be Collins Bay Institution in Kingston and Warkworth Medium Security Institution in Warkworth. These concerts are scheduled for November 2019.
One of the world’s greatest living violinists, Maestro Gidon Kremer, has agreed to present an interactive media recital to the inmates of Pacific Regional Treatment Centre in Abbotsford, British Columbia on January 29, 2020.
We are overwhelmed by the generosity of this great man to support our cause.
Looking at the Stars is expanding internationally! Our first European event will take place in a Lithuanian prison on October 22. Lithuanian Correctional Services will promote our event across multiple media outlets and our work will serve as a template for future such events there.
Columbia Artists – the world’s largest artist management company – is considering promoting Looking at the Stars to its roster of classical music celebrities, which includes names like Mutter, Zukerman, Polini, Pressler, Gergiev and others. This is an extraordinary opportunity to raise our profile and bring much-needed attention to the important work that we do.
